Meeting the cast in Belfast. Awesome stuff. I had to buy this box set and it is exquisite. It is a lot bigger and heavier than I imagined from the photos. It is big and it is heavy. But oh my it is beautifully finished. The total size is about 12x12x6 inches.
The casing is solid wood. Each season has it’s own laser cut folder. You use the “Hand of the King” pin to close it. Very well thought out. This is the ultimate GoT geekdom. That’s why. It is beautiful. This is the ultimate GoT gift. Although I probably won’t watch Season 8 again I bought this with excitement after watching series 1 on a 4k Blu-Ray with Dolby Vision, it looked stunning.
It beggars belief. I am returning it. I have been waiting for the fully packaged end of the saga for some time knowing that it would be something special and wow it does not disappoint. The level of detail within the packaging is truly spectacular, an item to be cherished and proudly displayed. For those who moan about the cost of this conceived and crafted piece of art are obviously missing the point, it is not just about the filmography.

This review is for the Blu-ray “normal” box set with the Digital code. I’m not going to talk about the show, as if you are here you know about it. To clarify, this set includes all 8 seasons and then an additional bonus disc set of extras, from across the series. This is something that no one else has mentioned, and I do not believe the digital copy is included in the special edition set.
So I hope you find this information useful. This set will help get you through. Let me confess at the start that I don’t have cable and don’t watch TV but friends in years past raved about “Game of Thrones” so I waited until a box set became available at an affordable price.
I purchased this set near the end of March when the world was asked to stay home with a pandemic on the rise. Conserving the episodes to two per evening, I watched the adventures of these great characters over the month of April. It is, as so many people have already said, the best I’ve ever seen, and I’m a fan of ‘Treme” which was also so very good. I can’t say enough about “Game of Thrones” – it’s fantastic.
The production, the acting, the music, the story, the intrigue, the sets, the massive battle scenes are all incredible.
I can only recommend it for anyone who loves an adventure and a great story told in a most extraordinary way.
I have read some negative reviews about season 8, the final season and I was prepared for some emotions in watching it but all in all I’d have to say that although the final season is a bit shorter, it’s a good ending to a great story. There are bonus features throughout that help you understand some history which helps to see the motivations of the characters and an extended look behind the cameras on the final days of shooting.
My heart went out to all the folks who were involved in the production in that final year as they talked about the work, the memories, the friends they made and the sad fact of show business that the play eventually comes to an end and all those colleagues and friends go on to something else and somewhere else. I did not expect the package to be this big! One thing, you have to be very careful in taking the discs out or putting them back, otherwise you might ruin the packaging.

Very cool. A must have for the avid fan!!! Unfortunately, mine came with slight damage to 3 of the sleeves from when they were inserted into the box I was very careful removing them, so the damage was done BEFORE I removed them. Otherwise it would be 5 stars for sure. Blue Ray sucks. Now I remember why I stop buying them. Digital copy is also a lie.
You can only stream the digital version and only if you sign up through some other service. Takes 7 minutes to get to watch the show from turning on BR player. But still incredible. The last season, admittedly, was not great. While the 8th season was disappointing, it ended in such a way that it remains open for more series in the future. The CGI, the acting, the characters are all worth it. As a proper send of and a memento I decided to purchase this box set, one thing I was not prepared for was how beautiful it would be.
The box is made of wood and leather, it feels extremely highly quality.

Obviously as with books over film adaptations,the characters are fleshed out better and you really do get a feel of each individual.
A gripping read throughout,well written and already an established classic be compared with Rings and Dune. I can’t wait for the next illustrated book in the series. Reading the book long after watching the TV series has been an enjoyable experience.
It was pleasant to read that very little is different, but the book is yet more detailed, more rich in character development and thought. We get to see the inner thoughts and individualities of the main cast. What struck me the most, however, was the tactical and strategic storyline really brought to the fore.
Intense, well thought out and heavily researched in a military sense gave my mind a work out. Being a behemoth of a novel, I couldn’t put certain parts down. I also found the medieval slant perfectly fitting. George RR Martin’s take on fantasy with a historical backdrop is certainly captivating.
I have to say however that certain parts lacked umph. Action was certainly lacking in parts. It needed a stronger balance of tactical intrigue with action, and the last third of the book was disappointing to say the least. It lagged somewhat and I found my concentration slipping. The major difference between the TV series and book was the ages of the ‘children’ characters, which gave certain parts a tad bit unrealistic.
It certainly is worth the interest it has received with its own enforced mythology and rich world building. It has much more detail than the TV series and you can find out more secrets and intentions of the characters too.
It can be hard going at times, but well worth the effort. An incredible book. I really liked the way the book concentrated each chapter on one particular character at a time. Report abuse. It’s truly a colossal piece of literature, and not just in length. Even if you dislike this book with the burning rage of a thousand dragons, you have to take a moment to admire the pure skill it has taken to create A Game of Thrones. The world Martin has created is brilliantly crafted. The characters are individual and strong.
But with A Game of Thrones, each story is just fantastic in it’s own right. In my personal opinion, I did naturally like some more than others.
